E – HEALTH: DR. STEVE OMMEN DESCRIBES THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE CONNECTIVE CARE CENTRE OF MAYO CLINIC (ROCHESTER – MINNESOTA)

12/07/2016

In the wake of the conference "ITALY – US Meeting, a new research model for the development of digital health", organized in December 2015 by our Firm, by “CIRSFID” from Bologna University and by the legal-scientific journal E-sanita@, we have the great pleasure to make available on our website the video recently released by Dr. Steve Ommen, who attended the conference as one of its prestigious speakers, about the services provided by the "Connective Care Centre” of the Mayo Clinic as its own Director.

With this interesting speech, Dr. Ommen illustrates the projects of the Centre, conceived as one of the first functional organizations aimed at developing and introducing new technological solutions in the delivery of health services, with the goal of making the treatments less expensive and more accessible by patients.

As You’ll notice by listening to the video, four are the targets and/or activities performed by the Centre directed by Dr. Ommen:

1. the creation of digital medical records, which patients, through their own credentials, can access via web to check the results of their medical tests and /or indications by their doctors, etc ..;

2. the possibility of providing video consultations, saving the patients from traveling a long way to reach the Clinic with less outlay;

3. the development of systems for the remote monitoring of the devices worn and/or used at home by the patients to check their vital functions;

4. the implementation of apps for the doctor - patient communication, designed to strengthen and simplify the contact between patients and the healthcare personnel.

The "philosophy" of the system, Dr. Ommen explains, is to involve patients in their care treatments  more than they usually are.

Therefore, Dr. Ommen continues, the message carried by such system is the following: technology needs to be meant not as a “digital fence” for few experts, but as a tool to serve the patient’s needs.

While fully supporting the projects pursued by Dr. Ommen and Mayo Clinic, we thank them very much for giving us the opportunity to spread such interesting contents.
